DroneSoccer stands as an innovative ICT sport for the 4th Industrial Revolution, offering inclusive drone leisure activity accessible to participants of all ages and genders.
Governed by the Federation of International Dronesoccer Association (FIDA), the international federation was founded in 2022 and now boasts 24 member countries worldwide.
DroneSoccer originated as an innovative new-concept sport developed in 2017. FIDA actively spreads its core philosophy: Making friends around the world through dronesoccer.
The first official demonstration match took place in 2016. Today, more than 30 DroneSoccer tournaments are held globally each year. This emerging drone sport has expanded into over 30 nations, including China, the United States, Japan and France. It is widely adopted for youth activities, school STEM courses, inter-school leagues and high-level international tournaments such as the FIDA World Cup.

FIDA sets unified official standards for two competition categories, Class 20 and Class 40, suitable for different age groups and competition levels.
Skyfence Field: Rectangular pitch sized 8m × 4m, maintaining a 2:1 length-width ratio.
Goal Ring: Round goal with 30cm inner diameter, outer diameter 50cm, thickness 10cm.
Drone Ball: Spherical protective frame drone, diameter 20cm±1cm, total weight under 110g, equipped with distinguishable LED lights. Class 20 drones feature compact size and lightweight design, ideal for beginners, primary and secondary school student training and campus events.
Skyfence Field: Rectangular pitch sized 16m × 7m, maintaining a 2:1 length-width ratio.
Goal Ring: Round goal with 60cm inner diameter, outer diameter 100cm, thickness 20cm.
Drone Ball: Spherical outer structure drone, diameter 40cm±2cm, total weight less than 1100g (including battery and receiver), identifiable via LED lighting. Class 40 is applied to official regional championships and international FIDA World Cup competitions for experienced pilots.
Each team consists of 5 pilots, assigned 5 positions: Striker, Keeper, Sweeper, Libero and Guide.
Normally 5 players per team; a match can start with a minimum of 3 pilots.
Only the Striker is permitted to score goals.
If the Striker cannot continue the match, the Guide may take over the role after formal forfeiture declaration and referee approval.
A valid goal counts only when the striker’s drone ball fully passes through the goal ring from front to back.
The goal will be ruled invalid under these conditions:
Offside violation occurs even if the drone ball fully enters the goal;
The drone ball bounces backward before fully passing through the goal ring.
Defensive players can enter their own goal from the front side rather than the rear side.
If over half of the drone ball enters the goal and is pulled backward, a penalty will be awarded.
Offside Rules:
Automatically offside if the Striker enters the opponent’s goal from any direction, and no scoring attempt is allowed.
To cancel the offside status, all pilots must retreat behind the halfway line back to their own zone.
If an uncontrolled drone ball stays in the opponent’s zone, offside cannot be cleared unless the pilot abandons the set and puts down the controller.
